Social media platforms derive their power from conventions: we want to be there because many others are. Now that X/Twitter is being leveraged, even algorithmically, by Elon Musk for political purposes, X has become dangerous for democracies. It’s time to change this convention.
Changing a convention on a global scale is a significant event. By definition, no one can do it alone. When Swedes decided to switch their traffic direction in 1967, everyone changed direction on the same day, the Dagen H, with the support of authorities.
The election of Donald Trump was a wake-up call. It’s a unique opportunity to make our digital Dagen H: a global shift in convention toward using social networks that can mitigate misinformation, the growing polarization of society, and global opinion manipulation.

We have a date: January 20, 2025, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration. After January 20, Elon Musk will, de facto, no longer be accountable to justice. X, as a digital ecosystem, will then be more dangerous than ever for its users’ mental health and for democracy.
We have a plan: to assist X users in their digital migration to healthier spaces.
On January 20, 2025, migration tools will allow X users to move their data and audiences from X to social networks that respect the fundamental principles of digital freedom: controlling your data, controlling your audience, and controlling your feed. Everyone will automatically and effortlessly regain their entire followers that also migrated to BlueSky or Mastodon.
Until January 2025, HelloQuitX will inform X users of the migration steps and lead a global media education initiative.
After #January20th, 2025, HelloQuitX will help everyone reconnect on Mastodon and Bluesky and you will be able to make an informed decision about whether to keep your X account or not. Information and trends will be shaped elsewhere than on X.
